Professor
Warren Tate is a Research Scientist and lecturer at the
University of Otago. In addition to his fundamental molecular biology
research, he has also been involved in molecular neurobiology, looking
at the brain and Alzheimer’s disease.
Then when his daughter contracted ME or Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome, he began researching some of the causes and possible cures
for ME/CFS as well.
In 2010, Professor Tate was awarded New Zealand’s premier
science and technology honour, the 2010 Rutherford Medal.
|
Dr Ros Vallings
was recently made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her
work treating people with chronic fatigue syndrome.
She works in a Howick general practice where 85 per
cent of the patients she sees suffer from ME and CFS.
Her patients are referred by GPs all over New
Zealand. Dr Vallings has been working in the area for 30
years and is excited recent research in the fields of immunology and
genetics is shedding light on chronic fatigue syndrome and proving it
is a real illness.
